Things I’m Thinking About — October 5, 2026

This week’s note is live.

Spiritual: Complete in Him. A lot of us keep chasing a better version of ourselves and wear ourselves out. Paul told the Colossians they were already complete in Him. The signal of grace is clear. We just haven’t tuned all the way in.

AI: The Phone Call I Didn’t Have to Make. An AI can dial a business, sit on hold, ask the questions, and report back. Useful for the five-minute calls we keep putting off. The caution: if a machine can sound like a person, it can sound like your grandson. If a call feels off, hang up and call back on the number you know. If you use one in your shop, have it say what it is up front.

City government: Your Value Went Up. Did Your Taxes Have To? Not necessarily. Georgia makes local governments figure a rollback rate when values climb across the board. Leave the millage alone while values rise, and the law still calls it a tax increase. Senate Bill 33 also closed the HB 581 opt-out door, so the homestead cap applies everywhere starting from the 2026 base year.

Productivity: Half a Push-Up. The hardest part of a good habit is the first minute. Make that first step so small it’s almost silly — one line, walk to the mailbox, half a push-up. Once you’re moving, you usually keep going.

Personal: Measuring a House, Measuring a Life. A date-of-death appraisal walkthrough. I measured the rooms. The family was measuring something else.

From the bookshelf: Through the Veil. John’s Gospel is not a race. It is a walk. Instant PDF, $7.95.
